Five Signs Your Fuel Injectors Are Overdue for Cleaning

There are over-the-counter fuel injector cleaners, but they do not do as good a job as professional cleaning. Dad’s Automotive can clean your fuel injectors to restore your engine’s performance. Your car, truck, or utility vehicle will give you signs that the fuel injectors need to be cleaned by an auto service technician. Let’s talk about these signs below.

1. Dancing Tachometer Needle

One strange sign of problems with the fuel injectors is a dancing tachometer needle. Sometimes, the problem with the injectors isn’t that they are clogged; rather, the injectors are cracked and leaking. When the fuel leaks out of the injectors and into the combustion chamber, your engine’s RPMs will surge. Consequently, you will see the tachometer needle dance. It will also dance if clogged injectors are causing an unsteady fuel flow into the combustion chamber.

2. Hard Starts/No Starts

Naturally, if you have a problem with clogs, there may be little or no fuel flow into the combustion chamber. When this happens, it becomes difficult if not impossible to start your car, truck, or utility vehicle. Depending on the severity of the clogs, we may be able to restore your engine’s starting ability. We are experts at unclogging fuel injectors.

3. Misfiring Engine

Problems with the injectors can also make your engine misfire and struggle to run. This is a sign that the engine is being fuel-starved. In other words, there isn’t enough fuel in the combustion chamber to sustain the engine’s operation. Consequently, it will cut out while you are driving.

4. Poor Fuel Economy

Your vehicle will also struggle to get the gas mileage it normally gets if the injectors are leaking or clogged. Leaking injectors will add excess fuel in the cylinders and the engine will burn away the extra gasoline or diesel fuel. If the injectors are clogged, the engine will have to work harder to run, and this will make it burn through the fuel quicker.

5. Rough Idling

Finally, if the engine is being fuel-starved, it will idle roughly. Naturally, you will feel the engine struggling to run while you sit at an idle. You may also hear it cutting out and threatening to stall. In severe cases, the engine may actually stall.
