We’ve Got Your Auto Filter Maintenance Covered Here at Dad’s Automotive

Replacing the filters in your automobile is as important as replacing the motor oil and other fluids. We’ve got you covered here at Dad’s Automotive. We are going to list the five types of automotive filters below and the recommended changing schedules. Keep in mind that the schedules are general in nature and your vehicle’s manufacturer may have a different schedule for each filter. You will find the schedule in the service section of your owner’s manual.

Air

The air filter should be changed at least once a year or every 12,000 miles if that comes first. This filter makes sure that the air that is burned in the combustion chamber is free of contaminants and dirt. If the air filter gets clogged because it hasn’t been changed, it will cause problems with gas mileage that your vehicle gets and the engine’s performance.

Cabin

The cabin filter is not found in every automobile. Some automobiles have nets that purify the air. If you do have a cabin filter, the recommended changing schedule is every 30,000 miles. It’s a good idea to check your owner’s manual, however, because some cabin filters need to be changed much sooner than this for fresh cabin air.

Fuel

The fuel filter needs to be changed at a minimum of every two years or 30,000 miles if this comes first. This filter is responsible for making certain that the fuel contains zero contaminants or sediment when it is burned in the combustion chamber. A clogged fuel filter will cause sputtering engine performance and may even make it difficult to start your car.

Oil

The oil filter is easy to remember because it is changed when you get your oil changed. This means you get a new oil filter under the hood every 3,000 miles. This is important to avoid dirty motor oil circulating through the engine. But dirt in the motor oil can build up on the moving engine parts and damage them.

Transmission

Finally, as with the cabin air filter, your vehicle may or may not be equipped with the transmission filter. If it is, it is recommended that you have a new filter installed in the transmission every 30,000 miles along with new transmission fluid. This keeps the transmission cool and operating as it should be.
